A Look Inside 'House at the End of the Street'

"House at the End of the Street" is an American horror film starring Elizabeth Shue, Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thierot and directed by Mark Tonderai. It is set in Pennsylvania, although it was mostly filmed in Ottawa, Canada. This film has a running time of 101 minutes, and its dialogue is entirely in English. The rating of this film is PG-13.

Release Dates

The original release date for this film was February 3, 2012, but it was later rescheduled to April 2012 and then to August 21, 2012. The reason for the changes in release dates was probably to prevent it from competing with other horror films by Relativity Media, the film's distributor. A novel based on the screenplay was released on August 21, 2012 to serve as a tie-in for the film.

Plot

Sarah Cassidy (Elisabeth Shue) is a newly divorced mother trying to get a fresh start in life. She and her daughter Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) move to a nice house in a small town in rural Pennsylvania. Sarah and Elissa begin to experience some unexplainable events that lead them to discover the town's chilling secret. Years earlier, a girl in the house next door killed her parents while they were asleep and then disappeared. Her brother Ryan Jacobson (Max Thierot) survived the massacre and stills lives in the house. Elissa befriends Ryan against Sarah's wishes, and they are all drawn into a dangerous mystery.

Writers

The writers for "House at the End of the Street" are David Loucka and Jonathan Mostow. Mostow wrote the original short story, from which Loucka developed the screenplay. Mostow also wrote the novelization of the film from the screenplay.

Loucka's first major successes as a screenwriter were comedies such as "The Dream Team" in 1989 and "Eddie" from 1996. However, he is currently best known for psychological thrillers such as the "The Ring" in 2002 and "Dream House" in 2011.

Mostow is both a director and writer and often performs both duties for the same film. He got his start in documentaries and music videos before making the 1989 thriller "Beverly Hills Bodysnatchers" and the 1991 action drama "Flight of Black Angel." Mostow's first commercially successful film was the 1997 thriller "Breakdown" starring Kurt Russell. This was followed by the 2000 World War II film "U-571" and 2003 science fiction action film "Rise of the Machines." He took a six-year hiatus from filmmaking before directing the 2009 science fiction action film "Surrogates."

Producers

The producers for "House at the End of the Street" include Peter Block and Aaron Ryder. The main producer is Aaron Ryder, who approved Ottawa for the film after scouting locations for two months. Ryder primarily selected rural locations for the film, although one week of filming was spent at Algonquin College. Ryder's producing credits include the 2001 comedy "The Mexican" starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. He also produced the 2000 psychological thriller "Memento" and the 2001 thriller "Donnie Darko."

Peter Block is best known as the producer for the "Saw" series of horror films, which currently includes six films. He also produced the 2005 horror film "The Devil's Rejects," the 2008 action adventure film "Rambo 4," and the 2009 horror film "Daybreakers."

Actors

Jennifer Lawrence is best known as Katniss Everdeen, the lead character in the 2012 action film "The Hunger Games." She also played Mystique in the 2011 superhero film "X-Men: First Class." Lawrence starred in the 2010 drama "Winter's Bone" as Ree Dolly. This role earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress at the age of 20, making her the second youngest actress ever to be nominated.

Elizabeth Shue is best known as Sera in the 1995 romantic drama "Leaving Las Vegas," for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She also played Jennifer Parker in the second and third films in the "Back to the Future" trilogy. Shue's first role in film was Ali Mills in the 1989 martial arts film "The Karate Kid."

Max Thierot's first film was the 2004 family comedy "Catch That Kid," when he was 16. He also starred in the 2005 comedy "The Pacifier," which also starred Vin Diesel. Thierot's first dramatic role was a Shepard farmer in the 2007 drama "The Astronaut Farmer," and he also had a starring role in the 2007 comedy/drama "Nancy Drew." Thierot's first adult role was Michael Stewart in the 2009 erotic thriller "Chloe." His last film before making "House at the End of the Street" was the 2011 drama "Foreverland."

Watching Sports on TV

Most sports fans would debate on whether it is better to watch sports at the stadium or on the television. Since one fan is different from another, he may think that watching a game live at the stadium is better than watching it on television. For some, however, that is not the case.

First, here are the advantages of watching a game live at the stadium.

- The atmosphere is very exciting because of all the sports fans gathered to give their support to their favorite teams.
- There is the unending buzz going on around the building; plus you might just meet somebody who has the same interests.
- Watching a live game with family and friends can prove to be a very bonding experience.
- There is no need for you to go out to get your favorite hotdog buns or pizza slice because stadiums are filled with food stands providing you with unlimited food choices.
- You can take home that ticket stub and place it in a scrap book as proof that you have been to the game.
You might get a chance to have a photo with your favorite athlete after the game.

Despite the advantages mentioned above, most sports fans prefer to watch games on TV since they believe watching at a stadium has the following disadvantages.

- They do not enjoy the discomforts of sitting on hard, plastic seats with no leg room.
- There could be drunken people sitting next to them, with a great chance of getting spilled with beer.
- There are some people who bring kids who seem to have a knack for kicking the back of a person's seat all the time.
- There is a big chance that the weather might turn harsh.
- Whenever hunger and the need to pee strikes, an irritated sports fan would have to spend time waiting in long lines.
- The more irritated fan might have spent a second glancing at his cellphone and realizes that he has just missed a good shot from his favorite team.
The long hours taken in waiting for a parking space.

Some fans believe that they can see more of the game when watching from their TV. Maybe this is because of the zooming in capabilities of cameras which influenced this reason. Whatever the reason is, watching sports on TV and watching live at the stadium both have their pros and cons. It is up to the fan to decide whether he would have to spend waiting time in long lines outside the stadium, or miss the live excitement yet enjoy the comforts of his living room couch.

5 Ways To Get Started On Plus Size Modeling

In her poem, "Full Figure Potential-A Fat Girl's Blues" Georgia-me, highlights the age-old excuse that beauty is skin deep, but any plus size woman knows that it is just that, an excuse. However, times have changed, thanks to plus size models like Tara Lynn; the world has come to appreciate the plus size woman. The plus size woman is beauty-full, hot and most of all she is here to stay.

Fashion and design companies have also come to appreciate this fact have introduced plus size lines to their designs. Here is that opportunity, a dream come true. Do you want to be on that line up, that commercial or pin-up.

Here is how to get started, and get there

The most important question is whether you want to be a plus size model. Talk to your friends; are you confident in front of a camera? Knowing what you want is the first step to getting it. Are you larger than size 10? If yes, you are in the right place and the design companies are looking for you.

Attending open calls for various modeling agencies, you will meet more models who will share their experiences with you (call this market research). This will open your eyes to the realities of plus size modeling.

4 Things To Do While You Consider Plus Size Modeling

Little was said about plus size modeling back then, as these people were perceived to leave little to desire. That has recently changed as we see more people getting confidence over their body type. This is especially since the fashion world has accommodated them. So how do you become a plus size model?

First things first, what defines you as a plus size woman and what makes you a model? Well, it is easy actually; you only need to be more than a nine but most importantly you have to be confident and photogenic.

Such a model is defined as a confident woman of distinct feminine features with a size range of between 10 and 20. Their job is to model, for not only clothes but also a variety of products mainly to improve sales. If one wanted to be a plus size model, this is what they would need;

Be interested in modeling

You want to do something you like, so you must be ready to model. Do your research and find out the challenges that come with becoming a plus size model. Talk to your family about it; be confident about your body because that is the most important thing

Create a portfolio

You have to be prepared to look like a commodity. Your objective will be to sell yourself as the best person to sell any product that you are called upon to. So in effect, you are a product, so create a portfolio; take photos of yourself, to show your natural beauty, get creative with your poses. Make sure that you only have quality photographs.

Approach modeling agencies

Look for agencies that have plus such model lines, for instance, Ralph Lauren started a plus size modeling line, Ashley Stewart and berna curves. Look for modeling agencies that will take you as you are.

Get an agency and attend their open calls.

It is very important to get exposure in to the modeling industry, getting yourself in to an agency is an easy way to get small jobs. Attending their open calls will open your eyes to the needs of the industry so that you can keep up with the times on how to become a plus size model.

Another important thing is to know what modeling agencies look for, so here is a small guide to what they look for

Height - Mostly minimum height is 5 7"
Size - As earlier stated, this ranges from size 10-20
Build - Have a proportional figure and natural beauty, especially the face and legs.
Attitude - Confidence comes in again, go getter and a positive attitude will come in handy.

When starting out, you will need to find a makeup artist and simple but stylish clothing and a very good camera.

Great Actors: Al Pacino

Considered one of cinema's most prolific actors of all-time, Al Pacino is truly a magnificently talented legend in the art of acting. With a total of eight Oscar nominations, including one win, he owes much of his success and legendary status to the fact that he was one of the leading actors during one of cinema's greatest eras, the 1970s, playing crucial roles in important gangster films. Since then, he has managed to only grow in stature and is widely regarded as one of the most influential actors of our time.

Mastering the Method Acting approach that was flourishing during the '70s, Al Pacino was able to demonstrate his unique acting abilities in such masterful works as The Godfather (1974) and The Godfather: Part II (1974), playing the now iconic role of mobster Michael Corleone. He shows true grit and realism that is simply uncanny and is absolutely magnetic in this role, which earned him two Oscar nominations. Other notable films of his during this era include Serpico (1973) and Dog Day Afternoon (1975).

Building on his new found fame and recognition, Pacino continued to make important films in the '80s and '90s. One of my favorites, 1983's Scarface, in which he plays Cuban mobster Tony Montana, further solidified his place in film history, to me at least. He is stunning and mesmerizing in this role and gave cinema one of its most famous quotes: "Say hello to my little friend!"

Playing a blind man in Scent of a Woman (1992), Al Pacino was finally given a much-deserved Oscar by the Academy. Being the true professional that he is, he did not rest on his laurels. Instead, he continued to act in two memorable films. While Carlito's Way (1993) became another gangster classic to be added to his impressive filmography, it was his excellent collaboration with director Michael Mann and another acting legend, Robert De Niro, in 1995 that resulted in possibly the greatest cop drama ever, Heat.

Having played outstanding roles in a plethora of classic films, it is clear to see that Al Pacino has not received his legendary status without working hard for it. As an admirer of cinema, I always get excited and pumped up when I am about to watch an Al Pacino picture. He brings such rawness and focus in his movies that very few other actors can, if any. One can safely claim that his roles and films will live forever and remain benchmarks for generations to come.

The Vampire Diaries: What Might Have Been

Each week, fans of The Vampire Diaries despair along with the brooding Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley and drool over the bad boy with a heart, Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder. These same fans try to keep up with the antics of Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce as Nina Dobrev keeps their heads on swivels as she whips from one situation to another one and another one. Then, there's the enigmatic, and downright hot, history teacher/vampire slayer, Alaric Saltzman portrayed perfectly by Matt Davis.

Everyone is so accustomed to these actors in the roles of these characters because they've been watching the show for the last three years. It's difficult to think of anyone else as Stefan, Damon, Elena and Alaric. However, as everyone knows, the creation of a television show takes a lot of work. Possibly the most important step of getting a series off the ground is selecting the best actors and actresses for each role. That means there will be auditions for the various characters that will be appearing in the show. So it should come as no surprise that there was every chance that other actors and actresses could have landed the roles that fans are so devoted to now. Some may surprise you, others will make you giggle, and still others may horrify you.

To begin with, fans love Paul Wesley in the role of Stefan Salvatore. However, Paul initially wanted to play the part of Damon Salvatore. He auditioned for Damon but the Powers that Be thought he would be better cast as Stefan. Truthfully, they weren't totally sure if he was the right one to play Stefan, either. That certainty didn't come until the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries was filmed and they saw that he totally nailed it. Now. no one can ever imagine another face on Stefan except that of Paul Wesley's.

Speaking of Damon Salvatore, it seems that his character is the one that everyone wanted to play. There's little wonder, though, when you think of the type of character that Damon is. Besides Paul Wesley, there were three other actors that coveted the part of Damon. Zach Roerig auditioned to play Damon before landing the lesser role of Matt Donovan. It doesn't seem that he would have fit the part of Damon so a good decision was made there. Then, there was Michael Trevino. He wanted to be Damon before he was given the role of Tyler Lockwood. Let's face it; Michael makes an awesome werewolf, but he really isn't Damon material.

Ian Somerhalder, of course, also auditioned and landed this much sought after role. In the eyes of the majority of The Vampire Diaries fans, Ian is perfection when it comes to playing Damon. When you think about it, True Blood's loss is definitely The Vampire Diaries gain. During the first couple of seasons, Damon relished being the bad boy. He showed no guilt for anything that he did. On the other hand, even when Stefan had returned to his Ripper side, he still didn't seem to enjoy it. Damon has never shown the tortured side of his soul that Stefan constantly shows. This part was made for Ian and it seems that the fans love him in it. After all, getting to look into those amazing eyes of his every week is more than enough reason for him to be Damon!

The part of Alaric Saltzman has been skillfully portrayed by Matt Davis for the three seasons. Even though his character is now deceased, he'll still be turning up every once in a while because Jeremy Gilbert can see and talk to dead people. Everyone agrees that Matt was the perfect choice to play Alaric. Now, it may surprise you that James Van Der Beek of Dawson's Creek fame was strongly considered for the part of Alaric. When you look at James' grown up appearance these days, it might not have been a bad fit. But everyone would have sure missed seeing Matt's handsome face every week.

Before Nina Dobrev was awarded the role of Elena Gilbert, there were a couple more actresses that were considered for the role. One of these was Alexandra Chando. She wanted the role so badly that she auditioned four different times for it. It seems that the show's Powers that Be had a "type" in mind because Alexandra looks a great deal like Nina. As it turned out, though, Alexandra went on to play the dual lead of twins sisters in The Lying Game.

Now, this next one is really difficult to digest, but it seems that the network executives wanted Ashlee Simpson for the dual part of Elena/Katherine. Take a second to let that sink in. Deal with the horror that you're most likely feeling at this moment. Then, remember that Nina was chosen to play Elena. Now, you can take a deep cleansing breath and relax. Ashlee went on to co-star in the disastrous remake of Melrose Place, and you all know what happened with that. Everyone can only be thankful that she wasn't allowed to ruin The Vampire Diaries. Seriously, what were those execs thinking?

Just for fun, when you're watching episodes from The Vampire Diaries, try to picture some of these other actors in place of the ones that won the roles. You might find that you'll get a little kick out of mentally placing their faces over the ones appearing on your television screen. Then, smile and breathe that sigh of relief that things turned out the way they did!
